If you've ever been to a track day down as Yas Marina Abu Dhabi, you'll know they can be a lot of things, namely loud and boisterous with engines revving and sputtering exhaust flames with a captivating smell of fuel in the air.
Last Friday's track day at the Yas Marina Circuit was very spirited, however, absent of any noisy straight-piped racing exhausts or rich racing fuel scent. And that's because it was an electric vehicle track day, perhaps the first of its kind ever.
This was brought to us by EV Lab, the region's first omni-channel multi-brand EV store region that offers a solution to embrace sustainable mobility.
This is done through educating potential car buyers on their website alongside social media channels inspired by an inevitable transition to more sustainable mobility.
Through their messaging, electric cars and coffee gatherings and the most recent track day, EV Lab reinforces the many advantages of electric vehicles including increased efficiency, environmental friendliness, technological advancements and a very fun drive having notably faster acceleration than most if not all petrol vehicles.
EV Lab's COO Kyle Weber goes beyond the technical and societal benefits and emphasizes the success of creating and strengthening the EV motoring community in the region through strategic partnerships and engaging driving experiences.
“Our event last Friday at the Yas Marina Circuit was an incredible success, and we are honored to be part of such a supportive EV community ecosystem! By bringing together the very strong EV owner’s community along with trusted OEM and dealer partners, EVLab gathered together a unique selection of electric vehicles never before seen in the same place in the UAE," explains Weber.
In collaboration with local dealers including Audi Abu Dhabi who brought over the new Audi E-Tron and E-Tron GT, Porsche Center Abu Dhabi with the new Taycan, the Emirates Motor Company showcasing the Mercedes EQC and Tesla Motors with a range of different models like the Model S, visitors were able to go for a drive or be passengers in some of the latest EV models in the world. EV owners were also allowed to bring their own cars onto the track.
MG Motor AE, Al Ghandi Auto and AW Rostamani also attended showcasing the MG ZS EV, Chevrolet Bolt and Renault Zoe respectively.
The event kicked off with a track briefing followed by a group track drive and hot laps with professional instructors and drivers. Some cars like the Taycan and EQC were only allowed to be driven by professional drivers with visitors riding as passengers. A group EV photoshoot and Iftar catered by Radisson hotel followed before wrapping up the event.
"But it was more than just for show, these cars hit the track - many quite hard behind the wheel of professional drivers - and members of the community were able to explore the limits of these high performance cars and be taken for a hot lap around the famous F1 circuit. We are very excited to host more of these events in the future, further expanding the community and encouraging more people to make the switch to clean, sustainable transportation.”
